Harold Altman

Artist Harold Altman (1924-2003) has been recognized by critics as one of the most influential American printmakers of the twentieth century.

Born in the Bronx in 1924, Harold Altman was an American painter and printmaker best known for his linear etchings and vibrant color lithographs. His prints of Central Park, the parks of Paris, and rural Pennsylvania are in museums and private collections worldwide.

A prolific draftsman, Altman produced more than 1200 unique editions of lithographs and etchings during his tenure as an artist. Critics lauded his “mastery of endless variation on a simple theme,” and praised his ability to reveal the extraordinary within the ordinary.
